Connection between a GBE wall and a timber-concrete composite floor

 

This method describes the construction of the connection between a GBE wall and a timber-concrete composite floor.

This method must be adapted as necessary to comply with the installation recommendations, particularly the safety requirements, specified by the suppliers of the equipment and materials used to construct a GBE wall.

Phase 1:

  • Construct the GBE walls in accordance with the GBE installation procedure.
  • Set out the positions of the timber joists on the GBE wall.

Phase 2:

  • Install the timber joists and fix them to the load-bearing internal concrete leaf of the GBE wall using metal joist hangers.

Phase 3:

  • Install all timber joists and check the required tolerances.
  • Install temporary propping in accordance with the suppliers' recommendations.

Phase 4:

  • Install the timber framing around the floor openings.
  • Fix it to the joists.

Phase 5:

  • Install a watertight polyethylene membrane, turned up at the walls, around floor openings and around service penetrations.
  • Install the timber-concrete shear connectors on the load-bearing elements in accordance with the supplier's layout drawings.

Phase 6:

  • Install the reinforcement spacers.
  • Install the required embedded services and components.

Phase 7:

  • Install the welded reinforcement mesh for the concrete slab.

Phase 8:

  • Cast the concrete slab and remove the formwork once the required concrete strength has been reached.

Phase 9:

  • Note: during construction of the floors, temporary propping must be continued down through successive levels until a level capable of supporting the propping loads is reached.
  • Remove the temporary props.
